Principles of Caregiving and Aging & Physical Disabilities.
FULL CLASS/4 days ONE SECTION/DAY
The Fundamentals of Caregiving and Aging and Disabilities classes are combined into a 32 hour program presented over a 4 day period of time. It includes:
Day 1 (usually Monday)
- Overview of the Principles of Caregiving
- Yavapai County Long Term Care
- Legal and Ethical Issues
- Communication
- Cultural Competency
- Job Management Skills
- Observing, Reporting and Documenting
Day 2 (usually Tuesday)
- Infection Control
- Nutrition and Food Preparation
- Fire, Safety and Emergency Procedures
- Home Environment Maintenance
Day 3 (usually Wednesday)
- Personal Care
- Transfers and Positioning
Day 4 (usually Thursday)
- Body Systems; Function, Changes with Aging, Care implications and Conditions
- Physical Disabilities and the Conditions: The Brain and Nervous System
- Psychological & Emotional Conditions
- Sexuality and Disability
- Activity Planning
- Dementia Specific Care
- Grief and End-of-Life Issues
NOTE:
This class does NOT meet the Arizona Department of Health Services curriculum requirement for certification as a
“Certified Caregiver” , which is used for individuals who provide services to clients in Assisted Living Homes.
It also does NOT meet the Arizona State Nursing Board curriculum requirement for certification as a "CNA" .
